The Mind of Dylan Fynn
YA adventure
In the middle of the Atlantic Ocean there is a city on the sea: a thriving and independent community and a closely guarded secret. Somewhere beneath the earth, The Beast Gathakós is waking. Three hundred years in the future the starving people of The Downlands are beholden to a despotic Palatine Lord and his ethereal wife and son. Dylan Fynn is thirteen years old and he doesn't know any of this. But he soon will.
The story of Dylan Fynn is intended to run across two seasons of eight one-hour episodes each: The Mind of Dylan Fynn and The Heart of Dylan Fynn. This is a large-scale production which moves between the UK, a floating city in the Atlantic and a future incarnation of the UK after the collapse of society.
Dylan is thirteen. He has cerebral palsy and suffers from mild epileptic seizures. His father, Dougal - having been abandoned by his wife seven years ago - has cosseted Dylan, much to the boy’s detriment. With significant reservations, Dougal has finally relented and allows Dylan to enrol at the local secondary school. When bullies single him out, Dylan suffers a dramatic seizure - but something very unusual accompanies the convulsions and collapse: the bullies are somehow knocked off their feet and left bleeding.
As if triggered by the event, curious characters start to creep into Dylan’s life: a huge young man named Ehren who shadows him like a bodyguard; a feral girl named Agro, who keeps trying to kill him; the dark Wielermenn who seem intent on doing likewise.
When Dougal is attacked and left stupified by the Wielermenn, Ehren rescues Dylan and they begin a journey to an ancient home he’s never known, a family who have never forgotten him, and the discovery of a dangerous power he must learn to harness, as he is tasked with saving his mother, and possibly the world, from a monstrous future.
The Mind of Dylan Fynn is an ambitious adventure series created for a YA audience, with scope to engage younger children and adults alike.
Available for co-production development and commission.
