JEB is already a cult comedy figure online. He has starred in more than 60 short films, which have attracted an audience of nearly 100 million people, and scooped several awards, including the Mobile and Internet TV Comedy Award at MIPCOM.

The Pen Is Mighty is an animated situation comedy taking the form of an ill-conceived magazine programme staffed by some of the least qualified wanna-be celebrities, dropouts and sideshow oddities broadcasting has ever endured.

The deteriorating relationship between the show’s emotionally entangled hosts, JEB and his fiancée Jo Seldom, continually steers the programme off script and a cast of deranged correspondents and vociferous but deluded guests do little to rescue it.

Attempting to juxtapose banal lifestyle whimsy with flailing attempts at heavyweight reportage invariably causes the show to deteriorate into a floundering melange of ignorance and incompetence, which the cast battle through with delightful disregard to their own stupidity.

TPIM is fast-paced and furiously inventive, building on a multi-layered style of comedy which has been the foundation of JEB’s success for over two decades. As a hybrid sitcom cum sketch-show it combines story elements with the flexibility and innovation of free-range skits. It’s rude, edgy and a bit sexy without being offensive or explicit.

A pilot for The Pen is Mighty has been produced and the show was entering commissioning with Channel 4 before management restructuring forestalled the process.
