Everything Else
Romantic comedy

A resolutely single mum and the dysfunctional heir to a crumbling porn empire realise they have nothing in common and fail to fall in love, whilst discovering that their incongruous friendship can fill the gaps and heal the wounds that romance can't.

Romance is off the table for Vicky and Edwin, despite pressure from those closest to them; they’re too old, too weary of complicated lives and relationships. But their first, and last date reveals the potential for something else: a friendship which crosses perceived barriers of class and character and which might, given time and care, fulfill a need they’ve both been denying to themselves.

Everything Else is a grown up, sharply observed character comedy which isn't afraid to challenge the audience with moments of pathos, carefully sprinkled amidst the smart-arsed wit, goofball nonsense and plausible slapstick.

Whilst Everything Else is targeted at the ‘grey pound’ it has potential across generations in its universal themes of friendship, healing and hope.

Everything Else is a Richard Curtis-esque antidote to Richard Curtis. Whilst the script is carefully crafted and poetic in places - ala Curtis, the film eschews the comfortable middle class world and narrow character tropes, and plants its feet in Mike Leigh territory - a sympathetic warts-and-all study of diverse characters and real world challenges.
